The Inn is taking part in the Advocacy & the Vulnerable national training programme. The programme has been designed to ensure that all advocates, when dealing with vulnerable witnesses, understand the key principles behind the approach to and questioning of vulnerable people in the justice system, irrespective of the nature of the allegation, or the jurisdiction in which the advocate appears.
In due course, the training will become mandatory for any advocate wishing to undertake publicly funded work for serious sexual offence cases involving vulnerable witnesses.
Training materials have been prepared by the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) and training is being delivered by the Inns of Court and circuits.
The course at Lincoln's Inn is run as half day morning session. Registration is on a first come first served basis. There is no charge for attending this training.
The Inn is running courses on the following dates:
Saturday 29 September (9 am - 1 pm)
Saturday 27 October (9 am - 1 pm)
Please note that this training is not open to student members, and is intended for barrister members practising in Crime. Family practitioners may attend but please note that the materials used for are a criminal case.
Please note that this course requires preparation in advance of at least 8 hours work, including preparing questions for witnesses which must be submitted a week in advance.
